2021 AFCON qualifiers: Sudan coach blames Ghana defeat to poor officiating

Sudan head coach Hubert Velud blames match officials for his side defeat to Ghana in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. The North African side suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Black Stars in this third round of fixture in the ongoing qualifiers. The French trainer complained about his side being denied a penalty in the first half after his striker Abdel Rahman was pin to the ground by Ghana defender John Boye. The incident led to a confrontation between Coach Hubert and the fourth official during the course of the game over the referee's decision not to award a penalty to his side. The confrontation led to a temporal hold up as Hubert protested on being pushed by the fourth official to the ground. He was later shown a yellow card for his conduct by the Senegalese referee. Speaking to the media after the game on the team's defeat to the Black Stars Coach Hubert said, "The refereeing performance was very bad, and that there was a clear penalty kick with striker Abdel Rahman that was not counted". The former French footballer was satisfied with the team's performance against the game despite the defeat, ”The national team played a good match and we explored the Ghanaian team during the match and we will be ready for the return match on 17 November 2020", Sudan captain Sammar Tayfour said at the post-match conference ahead of the reverse fixture. Sudan lost the game by 2-0 with goals from Ghana's captain Andre Dede Ayew scored in both halves. Ghana maintains its impressive run in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers recording three wins in the first round of matches. The Black Stars travel to Omdurman to play the reverse fixture on 17 November 2020.
